Generation One



1. Michael1 Harmon was born circa 1755 in Germany. He married Margaret Trump before 1780 in Germany . It has been reported that Michael and Margaret Trump were not married until after arriving in Pennsylvania. I have no proof as to which way it happened and we are still working on that aspect of his life.1 He died in August, 1807 in Mercer Co., Kentucky, . Michael left a will that was written at the end of July 1807. In the will he mentions all his children and his wife by name. The will is here: Michael Harmon Will.
Michael was a member of the 4th Pennsylvania Regiment enlisting in May of 1777 and serving into 1778, He was in an infantry company commanded by Captain Benjamin Fishburne and Lt. Col. William Butler.2

Margaret Trump was born circa 1760 in Germany. She died in 1815 in Mercer Co., Kentucky.

3. Peter2 Harmon (Michael1) was born on October 20, 1782 in Pennsylvania. He married Abigail Pipes, daughter of John Pipes Jr. and Mary Morris, on November 30, 1801 in Mercer Co., Kentucky, . These are the entries in the Mercer Co. Records for this marriage: Mercer County, Ky. Court Records,1801 Box 1801 Mr. Thos Allin, will you be good enough to issue Peter Harmon as he has my approbation for the same given under my hand this 1st day of August, 1801. Michael Harmon (Seal) Mr. Thomas Allin will be so obliging as to grant Mr. Peter Harmon marriage license as he has my consent to marry my daughter, Abigail Pipes. He witnessed the marriage contract of Nathaniel P. Pipes and Margaret Harmon on August 6, 1817 in Mercer Co., Kentucky (This was a marriage bond).

Abigail Pipes was born on December 24, 1783 in Surry Co., North Carolina, Her birth date is engraved on her grave stone. She died on March 6, 1837 in Gravel Switch, Marion Co., Kentucky, at age 53 The birth and death dates are engraved on her grave stone. She was buried on March 9, 1837 in Old Union Church Cemetery, Perryville, Boyle Co., Kentucky.3,6

Jane Pipes was born in 1798 in Mercer Co., Kentucky. She married Archie Gray, son of John P. Gray Sr. and Lucinda Jones, on December 5, 1820 (The bondsman for this marriage was William Pipes).4 She died on February 1, 1863 in Perryville, Boyle Co., Kentucky.6 She was buried on February 4, 1863 in Old Union Church Cemetery, Perryville, Boyle Co., Kentucky. She has a tombstone which gives her age as 65 and allowed calculation of her birth date.6

Michael2 Harmon Jr. (Michael1) was born on April 12, 1792 in Mercer Co., Kentucky.5 He married Martha "Patsy" Holland on July 22, 1813 in Mercer Co., Kentucky.5 He died on July 5, 1833 in Washington Co., Kentucky, at age 41. He was buried on July 8, 1833 in Harmon Cemetery, Perryville, Mercer Co., Kentucky.

Martha "Patsy" Holland was born in 1792. She died on September 8, 1866 in Kentucky.1 She was buried on September 6, 1866 in Harmon Cemetery, Perryville, Boyle Co., Kentucky. Marriage is recorded in Book 1 Page 176, Mercer Co. Court Records, Harrodsburg, Ky.

7. Jacob2 Harmon (Michael1) was born circa 1795 in Kentucky . He was listed in the 1850 Census as 55 years old. So we placed his birth as 1795. The date for his death is 1865 in Linn Co. In the 1860 Census he is 66 y/o living alone in Sullivan County.3,1,9 He married Elizabeth 'Patsy' Pipes, daughter of John Pipes Jr. and Mary Morris, on December 31, 1821 in Mercer Co., Kentucky.10,3 He died in 1865 in Linneus, Sullivan Co., Missouri.1 He was buried in 1865 in Linneus Cemetery, Linneus, Sullivan Co., Missouri, . The stone has long been lost.

Elizabeth 'Patsy' Pipes was born in 1786 in Surry Co., North Carolina, she is listed as 70 years old on her Sullivan County grave stone in 1856. So we set her birth as 1786.10 She married Daniel Shaw on February 23, 1814 in Mercer Co., Kentucky (The Bondsman for this marriage was James Pipes and consent was given by John Pipes, her father. On Page 178 of Mercer Co. Marriage Bond Book. Daniel Shaw had been previously married and had several young children when he married Elizabeth).3,10,11,4 She died on May 31, 1856 in Browning, Sullivan Co., Missouri, She was listed in the 1850 census but not 1860. Her age is given as 70 years on her tombstone. She is in the Deep Springs Cemetery transcribed list on-line as Elizabeth Harmon.12,13 She was buried in June, 1856 in Deep Springs Cemetery, Sullivan Co., Missouri.10

8. Margaret2 Harmon (Michael1) was born on February 14, 1801 in Mercer Co., Kentucky. She married Nathaniel P. Pipes, son of John Pipes Jr. and Mary Morris, on August 6, 1817 in Mercer Co., Kentucky.14,4 A contract for the marriage of she and Nathaniel P. Pipes was signed on August 6, 1817 in Mercer Co., Kentucky (This was a marriage bond). She died on June 30, 1870 in Gravel Switch, Marion Co., Kentucky, at age 69. She was buried on July 2, 1870 in Old Union Church Cemetery, Perryville, Boyle Co., Kentucky.15,16

Nathaniel P. Pipes was born on December 4, 1788 in Surry Co., North Carolina, His name was given as Nathaniel P. in a court record concerning his mothers pension application. He died on April 14, 1863 in Mercer Co., Kentucky, at age 74 (Nathaniel's will was written on July 26th, 1858 and was submitted to the court of Boyle County and recorded there after his death in the May Term of 1863).17 He was buried on April 17, 1863 in Old Union Church Cemetery, Perryville, Boyle Co., Kentucky.18

9. Michael3 Harmon III (Peter2, Michael1)3,3 was born on January 17, 1802 in Mercer Co., Kentucky. He married Marion Webster, daughter of William Webster and Emily (_____), on June 8, 1824 in Casey Co., Kentucky. He married Lucrecia Tharp McCarty after 1866.

Marion Webster was born on March 29, 1805. She died on January 27, 1865 in Kentucky at age 59.1

13. Thomas Jefferson3 Harmon (Peter2, Michael1) was born circa 1810 in Mercer Co., Kentucky. He married Edna Tolly, daughter of James Tolly and Nancy Crain, on July 24, 1832 in Kentucky.21,1
. Thomas Jefferson Harmon and Edna Tolly moved to Missouri in 1835 with the Franklin family. Her sister Frances was married to Edmund Franklin.1

Minerva and John Thomas relocated to Pike County, Indiana along with many families from the Boyle and Marion County area. They moved after 1870 when Minnie was born. 20. John "Jack"3 Harmon (Michael2, Michael1) was born on February 10, 1815 in Mercer Co., Kentucky. He married Mary Holland. He died on August 6, 1870 in Douglas Co., Kansas, at age 55.
Jack had purchased a new farm near Fall River in Greenwood County, Kansas. While driving some of his stock there from Kentucky in late July of 1870, he took ill with a fever, developed Typhoid fever and then died on Aug 6th near Big Springs in Douglas County. His Brother in Law, Margnis Warner lived near there.1

John was accidentally killed when he was shot as an inncocent bystander while observing a heated argument in Perryville. One of the men pulled and fired a pistol, striking John in the heart.1

Edwards, celebrated their golden wedding Wednesday, November 1st at their home near Aliceton. The fine old home was the scene of a happy gathering, and four generations were represented - the father and mother, their only child, Mrs. W. O. Edwards, her children, Mrs. Lee May, Mrs. John Isaacs and Messrs. Stanley and Irvine Edwards, the two little great-grandchildren, Luther and William May. Only one person was present who was present at the wedding of Mr. Nathan Pipes and Miss Kizzie Brand fifty years ago that was Mrs. Fannie Brand Moss, sister of the bride.39 PIPES, NATHAN ARTICLE LEBANON ENTERPRISE 2/17/1911 Friday HAPPENINGS IN COUNTIES ADJOINING MARION COUNTY Nathan Pipes, one of the well known and highly respected citizens of Boyle County, was painfully burned at his home four miles from Perryville last week. While he was building a fire, in some way he fell forward and his arm and face came in contact with the grate and were painfully, though not dangerously, burned.39

Keziah Brand was born on March 12, 1837 in Bourbon Co., Kentucky. She died on September 11, 1912 in Mercer Co., Kentucky, at age 75. She was buried on September 13, 1912 in Old Union Cemtetery, Boyle Co., Kentucky. PIPES, KIZZIE (BRAND) OBIT LEBANON ENTERPRISE 1912,09-20 G-OLD UNION CEMETERY D-1912,09-11 Lebanon Enterprise, Friday, Pg. 1---GRAVEL SWITCH---The death angel visited this community September 11, and took from our midst Mrs. Kizzie Pipes, wife of N. W. Pipes, deceased, who preceded her to the grave 10 months. Death was caused from cancer of the stomach. She was 75 years of age. Mrs. Pipes was a devoted Christian and a loving wife and mother. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fannie L. Edwards, and four grandchildren, Mr. Irvine Edwards, of Danville; Mrs. Stanley Edwards, Mrs. Lee May and Mrs. John Isaacs, besides several great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held the following day at Doctor's Fork Church in the presence of a large congregation. Interment was in Doctor's Fork Cemetery. Many friends and relatives extend sympathy to the family in their sad bereavement. (Her death certificate lists her as Kiffie W. 34. Alfred Warden3 Pipes (Margaret2 Harmon, Michael1) was born on February 19, 1828 in Mercer Co., Kentucky. He married Rachel Brand, daughter of James Brand, on March 11, 1856 in Boyle Co., Kentucky.41 He died on June 22, 1885 in Clay Co., Missouri, at age 57 (Alfred's heirs and wife sell property that belonged to him in Boyle Co. Kentucky in 1887 where he is mentioned as deceased).41 He was buried on June 23, 1885 in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Clay Co., Missouri.41
He is listed in a short Bio in a History of Clay Co. Missouri and it lists his seven children. Two names that don't match are Mary L and Lizzie M. Alfred Warden (A.W.) Pipes was born in Mercer County and lived near Mitchellsburg, taught School and was a postmaster at Mitchellsburg until 1855 when he removed to Missouri and Kansas. He returned to Kentucky and in 1856 married Rachel Brand, a sister to Keziah Brand who married A.W's brother Nathan Waters Pipes. A.W. secured the farm formerly owned by his father Nathaniel from the executors of Nathaniels Estate in 1873. In 1882 he sold out and renmoved to Denton Co. Texas, but being unsatisfied there, he removed again to Clay County, Missouri. A.W's name appears on countless deeds and courthouse records as he engaged in buying and selling land and pursued farming and livestock where ever he lived. He is in the 1850 Census of Boyle Co. in the home of his father Nathaniel. He is listed in the 1860 Slave Schedules with 3 female slaves in Marion County. In 1870 he is in the Haysville area in Marion Co. In the early 1880s he removed to Texas and then to Clay County, Missouri.

Rachel Brand was born in 1835 in Kentucky.

Allen S. Montgomery was born on March 12, 1818 in Kentucky . In the 1850 census he is 32 years old; In the 1860 census he is 42 years old. This family does not appear in the 1870 or 1880 census for Kentucky. I have not been able to Identify them elsewhere in the Census records. Children's birth dates are from the existing census records.30 The Date is from his grave stone. He was buried on January 18, 1895 in Ryders Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Marion Co., Kentucky.

The funeral will occur at 10:30 a.m. tommorrow at the Christian church, corner Mercury and Washington Streets, Rev W.M. Jordan officiating. He was buried on December 1, 1910 in Mt Moriah Cemetery, Butte, Silver Bow Co., Montana.

Hugh Barrett Helm Sr was born on April 3, 1897 in Marion Co., Kentucky. He died on January 28, 1951 in Marion Co., Kentucky, at age 53 . His death was by suicide.120 He was buried on January 30, 1951 in Lebanon National Cemetery, Lebanon, Marion Co., Kentucky, . Hugh was a veteran of WW1. He served his country in the military. Served in the US Navy during WW I.

Laurel C. Taylor136 was born in 1908 in Kentucky.136,138 He There are few traces of Laurel Taylor. At 12 years old he appears alone as a boarder in Muncie, Indiana 1920 census records and is a delivery boy. He and Virginia were married in May of 1926 in Indianapolis and then he disappears. I did find a SS death record for a Laurel Taylor in 1979 in Norwalk, Ohio. It appears that Laurel was born in Kentucky in 1908 from the census records. in 1930.
There were no known children of Virginia Doris5 Pipes and Laurel C. Taylor.

The only known child of Virginia Doris5 Pipes and James Warren Sr. was:

601. Lucille D.5 Pipes (William4, Obediah3, Margaret2 Harmon, Michael1) was born in 1911 in Indiana. She married Harold Carpenter circa 1931. She died in 1938.

The only known child of Lucille D.5 Pipes and Harold Carpenter is:

602. Lloyd L.5 Pipes (William4, Obediah3, Margaret2 Harmon, Michael1) was born on September 7, 1914 in Phoenix, Arizona. He married Charlotte Allen on March 6, 1937 in Indiana.137 He died on November 28, 2007 at age 93. He was buried on December 2, 2007 in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana.
